Netball playing numbers up by 130k

Commonwealth Games final they did not just capture hearts across the nation — they caused a transformation in the sport.

The triumph over Australia in April was watched live by 1.8 million people, and many of those viewers must also have voted for it to be the sporting moment of the year at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show, in front of England’s winning penalty shoot-out against Colombia in the World Cup and Europe’s Ryder Cup victory.

Since March 130,700 women have taken up netball or increased the amount they play.
